TASK 3 - PORTRAITS (INSPIRATION)

The three artists that we had to research were Platon, Bill Cunningham and Lee Friedlander. These are all three really impressive photographers that have focused all their career mostly on photographing people in all their shades. Apart from that they produce fundamentally different pictures. Each of them is able to catch different aspects of people's personalities. Cunningham became famous as the best street fashion photographer in New York. With his bike he moves from show to show searching for the most eye-catching looks.
Blue Chip, Bill Cunningham

His works are published every week on the New York Times where he fills two pages with a composition of carefully selected pictures. He likes to tell a different "story" every time, sometimes you can find hundreds of pictures of shoes and sometimes you can also find an entire page full of photos of black and white clothes spotted around NY.

Seriously, Bill Cunningham

Friedlander on the other side celebrates the glory of black and white photography. His pictures are intense and unconventional.

Galax, Virginia, 1973, Lee Friedlander

Things are always photographed in a quite confusing way. The artist plays with shadows and reflection to shape the reality. I really like that the photographer always keep looking for new viewpoints.

Tallahassee, Florida, 1969, Lee Friedlander

Finally my favorite artist, Platon. His pretty simple and monochromatic photos are a true emotional journey. A simple headshot becomes a story where every detail tell us something about the subject.

George W. Bush

I read an interview where he was talking about some of his shootings with prime minister. This interview revealed me even more messages behind the pictures.

Vladimir Putin, Platon

I think that Platon brings the portraits to a whole new level of visual beauty and storytelling.

Remy Essam, Platon

My idea for the shooting is to recreate the Platon's look but adding a touch of Cunningham and Friedlander's innovation and originality to tell the story of my model in the best way possible.
